Your cleanser will lay the foundation for all of your skin care routine. And it may be time to try a cleaning balm — especially if you notice, like me, that a lot of cleansers are leaving your face tight, stingy or dry.
A shaving balm is a strong oil based cleanser for those who haven’t tried one yet. They usually come in tubs, meaning you need to dig out some of the liquid using your finger or a spatula. You will then massage the substance gently into your skin, where it will heat up and take on a creamier texture. Finally, you’re going to use a wet washcloth to take it off, or sprinkle some water on your face to help massage, followed by a dry towel.
Oil-based cleansers are less likely to dry out or irritate dry or sensitive skin compared with foamy or water- or gel-based cleaners. The oils in soothing balms then leave my skin feeling moisturized. So, if you feel like your regular cleansers leave you feeling hot, stripped-skin, a cleanser based on oil can be a better choice.
Here are the best cleansing balms for dry skin.
Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm
This one is a special favorite of mine, because I love its soft texture of butter and its juicy, citrusy scent. Thanks to the olive oil and vitamin E, my skin always feels clean after using it, but also nourished and moisturised.
Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm
This pastel green balm is both effective in removing the makeup and is friendly to Instagram. Unlike several other cleaning balms, it has exfoliating ingredients (papaya enzymes) to help clean and smooth the skin more thoroughly, in addition to various cleaning oils.
Banila Co Clean It Zero
This favorite K-beauty begins with a smoother feel than other balms, and comes in different formulations depending on what your skin needs. Personally, I always go back to the original version, made with vitamin C brightening and vitamin E moisturising. It has a very heavy smell, but luckily it does not irritate me.
Naturopathica Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm
Manuka honey is commonly used in most forms of skin care products and has shown some potential in the treatment of dryness, acne, and rosacea, as SELF described earlier. This cleaning balm feels super hydrated with the addition of hyaluronic acid, and smells delicious. Bonus: When my skin feels a bit drier it makes a great five minute mask.
